I, Lai Cheung of Victoria in the Colony of Hongkong, do solemnly and sincerely declare that I am master of the Leung Yik Pawnshop at No. 134 Wellington Street. I have been partner in that Pawnshop for 6 years. Before I became master, I was employed in the Pawnshop first as Assistant Accountant and afterwards as Accountant for 11 years. I know that my second brother, Lai Ying, who was employed in the Leung Yik Pawnshop as accountant up to the beginning of 1896, collected money from pawnshops in Victoria for the Police and I have heard that a man called Trau Tsing-ch'un assisted him in the collection. The contribution from Leung Yik Pawnshop was between thirty and forty dollars a year for a number of years. I do not know what other pawnshops paid money to Trau Tsing-ch'un or how long it has been paid every year.
